Boxborough Select Board Approves FY27 Liaisons, Reappointments in Unanimous Votes

BOXBOROUGH — June 23, 2026 — Boxborough Select Board defers stretch code vote, approves FY27 liaisons and annual reappointments. The board heard an introductory presentation Tuesday from CELT Fellow Becky Caruso, a Northeastern University graduate student working with the town's Sustainability Committee, who argued that adopting the specialized stretch energy code could unlock more than $1.4 million in state grants — including up to $1 million through the Climate Leader Communities program — and deliver an estimated $800,000 in life cycle savings on the proposed new fire station alone. Chair Robert Stemple confirmed no vote would be taken, directing staff to gather additional data on local builder costs and the number of annual permits that would be subject to the code before returning with a follow-up presentation. Board member Kristin Hilberg questioned the data sources and said construction in Acton "nearly ground to a halt" after that town adopted the code. In formal action, the board voted 5-0 four times to approve FY27 liaison assignments — including Stemple taking on the dormant Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee — and to reappoint members to town boards, committees, and commissions for terms running through 2027, 2028, and 2029. Land closing for the fire station site at 984 Mass Ave is scheduled for July 17.
