Boxborough Zoning Board of Appeals approves 555 Liberty Square Road two-family conversion, 5-0. Chair Shawn McCormack led the vote authorizing Kathleen Vorst to convert her 1890 farmhouse and barn, a project she said took 40 years, into a legal two-family dwelling after the barn unit's roughly 944 square feet exceeded the state's 900-square-foot ADU cap. The town's planning consultant, Alec, said the primary home will shrink from 2,300 to 1,306 square feet of gross floor area once the units are separated, calling the project "a step forward towards what I think we're feeling in Boxborough is quite expensive home prices." Vorst credited a 1996 deed restriction limiting the property to three bedrooms with easing new septic requirements.
The board also unanimously adopted revised rules and regulations after nearly a year of drafting.
