BOXBOROUGH — The Boxborough Housing Board confirmed a $60,000 state grant toward its first housing production plan in 11 years and voted 5-0 to submit its annual rental-assistance funding request to the Community Preservation Committee. Housing staff member Ian said the grant, combined with $15,000 in town matching funds, gives the board $75,000 to hire a consultant, comparing costs to communities like Essex. BRAP administrator Wendy flagged a case where a family of four's rent burden fell to 21 percent, below the program's roughly 30 percent threshold; members Joe Ferguson and F. Channing Wagg backed keeping the family enrolled rather than raising their rent.
Chair R. Allen "Al" Murphy said of the board's stalled Stow Road parcel, "We need to do something with that property," as the board weighed starter homes, modular construction and sale against renewed neighbor-opposition concerns, without reaching a decision.
