Housing Board votes against $175,000 condo buy
Housing Board · Meeting of September 22, 2026
Boxborough Housing Board passes on a $175,000 condo, renews rental aid funding. Chair R. Allen "Al" Murphy told the board the town's Affordable Housing Trust holds roughly $195,000, too thin to safely absorb closing and legal costs on top of a $175,000 asking price for a one-bedroom unit at 196 Swanson Road.
Member Joe Ferguson backed passing, saying "we need to have a plan for how we spend our funds, as opposed to just responding." The board unanimously voted to continue funding the Boxborough Rental Assistance Program, which serves an average of 14 households, at its current level for fiscal year 2028. Members also reviewed feedback from an August 25 housing forum showing strong resident interest in "missing middle" housing types like duplexes and fourplexes, and heard from consultant Kelly on a townwide website redesign set to launch by the end of October.
