Boxborough Select Board plans two fall special town meetings for MBTA zoning and fire station

BOXBOROUGH — May 28, 2025 — Boxborough Select Board reorganizes and sets tentative two-meeting fall town meeting schedule. Meeting for the first time with newly elected member Sam Anderson, the board reelected its chair by a 4-1 vote and unanimously named a new clerk, then moved to address the town's two most pressing deadlines: an MBTA Communities zoning vote and a fire station article that failed at the May annual meeting. Town Planner Alec Waite warned that missing the December 30, 2025, MBTA compliance deadline would cost the town retroactively unrecoverable grant funding — potentially "a couple million dollars a year" — and the board tentatively targeted October 21-22 for zoning articles and December 8-9 for the fire station, both at the Regency banquet facility rather than the school gymnasium that drew more than 450 people in May. The board unanimously authorized Waite to submit a $60,000 One Stop for Growth grant application for a $75,000 economic development plan to be produced by the Metropolitan Area Planning Commission entirely with outside dollars. A school district administrator announced the district had received a $2.9 million federal tax credit check for net-zero campus work, including $210,000 in interest after a 252-day delay, funds the district intends to put toward a capital stabilization account for high school air handling units.
