Boxborough Select Board Clears CPC Accounting Error, Opens Annual Town Meeting Warrant

BOXBOROUGH — November 13, 2024 — Boxborough Select Board clears a $71,000 Community Preservation Act accounting error and opens the annual town meeting warrant. The board voted unanimously Wednesday to authorize a letter to the state Department of Revenue committing to correct a multi-year CPC reserve misclassification at the upcoming special town meeting, clearing the way for the town's annual tax-rate certification to proceed. Finance Director Hong-Hua identified the error — roughly $71,000 placed in the wrong reserve bucket over several years — and brought it to the Department of Local Services; DLS agreed to accept the board letter in lieu of waiting for a full town meeting vote. The annual town meeting warrant for May 12, 2025 is now open for submissions through December 9 at 4 p.m. In other business, the board received word that the Western Boxborough Water Line has cleared all DEP permitting hurdles, with first water delivery to PFAS-affected homes projected for January 1, 2027; a board member noted those properties currently sit on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac do-not-lend lists, limiting sales to cash buyers. MassDOT will hold a public information session on the planned replacement of the 75-year-old Route 111 bridge over I-495 on November 26, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Town Hall.
