Boxborough Select Board Accepts Nearly $30,000 in Police Grants, Honors Civic Academy Class

BOXBOROUGH — November 10, 2025 — Boxborough Select Board accepts police grants, hears $9 million school budget warning. The board voted unanimously Monday to accept two police grants totaling $29,804 — an $8,977 Edward J. Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant for tactical vests and a $20,827.28 Municipal Road Safety Program grant covering extra traffic enforcement, field breathalyzers, and advanced impaired-driving training — and to accept $4,750 in community donations for food assistance after a sudden SNAP disruption left 261 residents and 167 households without federal food benefits for days. Acton-Boxborough Regional School Committee member Adam Klein warned the board that preliminary Finance Committee guidance suggesting a 2 percent increase in Boxborough's school assessment would translate to roughly $9 million in cuts from level services at the district — compared to the $1.2 million to $1.7 million in annual reductions the district has absorbed in recent years. Town Administrator Mike Guzinski said he will return in two weeks with formal FY2027 budget guidance framing both an override and a no-override scenario, with Finance Committee Chair Tony Newton also expected at that session. The board also appointed Finn Vermin as the Housing Board's representative to the Community Preservation Committee through June 2027 and recognized 11 graduates of the 2025 Boxborough Civic Academy.
