Boxborough Select Board Approves Evening Early Voting Hours, Crosswalk Signal Request

BOXBOROUGH — September 23, 2024 — Boxborough Select Board adds evening early voting slots and requests crosswalk signals near elementary school. The board voted unanimously at its September 23 meeting to reshape the early voting schedule for the November 2024 state election, shifting sessions on October 24 and October 28 to 5–8 p.m. to accommodate working residents — a change pushed by member Priya Bhatt, who argued the original 11 a.m.–2 p.m. slots excluded anyone with a day job. Town Administrator Mike Giaimo noted the September 30 statutory deadline left no room to defer the vote and said he would confirm staffing with Acting Town Clerk Liz Markowitz. The board also voted unanimously to direct the Town Administrator's office to request push-button flashing pedestrian signals from MassDOT at two crosswalks on Route 111 near Blanchard Memorial School — one near the police station at 520 Mass Ave and one near the fire station at 502 Mass Ave — after member Bob Barbaro cited safety concerns raised by two families. Giaimo announced that Boxborough has been awarded a $50,000 Community Compact Grant for an ADA transition-plan study of municipal buildings.
