Boxborough Fire Station Committee Weighs Single-Story vs. Two-Story Designs
Fire Station Building Committee · Meeting of May 28, 2026
Boxborough's Fire Station Building Committee reviewed four schematic design concepts and finalized plans for a June 4 public visioning session at its May 28 meeting. The committee's architect, identified as Chris, presented one single-story and three two-story layouts for a roughly 20,000-square-foot headquarters on Mass Avenue at Sarah's Way, with a project budget target under $30 million. A geotechnical study showed bedrock as shallow as one and a half feet below grade near the proposed building footprint, a finding the team said will shape both building placement and the feasibility of a direct apparatus curb cut onto Route 111 — a move that would require a MassDOT permit.
An updated space-needs summary pegged the program at 21,243 gross square feet through 2056, adding a compressor room, an enclosed ice machine enclosure, and a 30-locker per diem room. The committee unanimously approved $7,763.19 in invoices covering Vertex engineering services and minutes-taking by Christian Patnot.
