Boxborough fire station panel preps zoning waivers for Sept. 23 hearing. Sustainability Committee liaison Barbara Salzberg pressed the project's engineers on why a ground-source geothermal system showed only 15 percent lower energy use than an air-source system, versus a typical 50 percent residential gap; engineers said a commercial building's tighter envelope narrows the difference.
Abutter Rachel told the committee an aerial rendering understated recent tree clearing near her property and asked for replanted buffers. Committee member Alan Ford questioned an eight-foot retaining wall near overflow parking. Members approved the August 27 minutes, 4-0 with two abstentions, and confirmed a $25,000 fitness-equipment line item was an error to be deleted from the next cost estimate.
