Boxborough Finance Committee Recommends Dozens of Warrant Articles, Holds Fire Station Funding

BOXBOROUGH — February 25, 2025 — Boxborough Finance Committee recommends more than 20 Annual Town Meeting warrant articles and hears an override warning from the regional school superintendent. At its February 25 meeting, the five-member committee voted to recommend articles totaling more than $2 million in spending — including a $1 million fire truck replacement, $300,000 for road maintenance, and $20,000 for the Boxborough Emergency Assistance Program — while holding others pending language or legal review. Superintendent Peter Light of the Acton-Boxborough Regional School District told the committee that maintaining current service levels in FY27 would require a district budget increase of 5.25 to 5.5 percent, with Boxborough's assessment likely scaling significantly higher, and warned that "we're kind of at our breaking point as a school district here with making reductions." The committee voted 0-5 against a supplemental OPEB article that would have retroactively addressed a $100,000 prior-year funding gap. The committee also held without vote the contested Taylor Farm parcel acceptance article, seeking a legal opinion before proceeding, and noted the $116.8 million FY26 district budget already reflects the elimination of more than a dozen teaching and support positions.
