Boxborough Finance Committee Approves $37,860 Fire Department Reserve Fund Transfer
Boxborough Finance Committee votes unanimously to cover a $37,860 fire department maintenance deficit.
BOXBOROUGH -- June 16, 2026, Boxborough Finance Committee votes unanimously to cover a $37,860 fire department maintenance deficit. The all-remote Finance Committee approved two reserve fund transfers at its June 16 meeting: $28,425.57 to fire vehicle maintenance account 220-52-5245 and $9,434.60 to fire equipment maintenance account 220-52-5241, drawing the FY26 reserve fund balance down to roughly $95,600 from a $175,000 starting balance. Fire Chief John Kiblin attributed the overrun to three unexpected catastrophic truck failures during the fiscal year, describing parts sourcing from manufacturers as increasingly difficult and noting the town has joined a class action lawsuit against fire apparatus makers over pricing. The committee also heard liaison reports flagging a potential $60,000 to $100,000 cost increase for the new fire station if the town adopts the state's super stretch code, and a $1.4 million grant incentive tied to that adoption, a tradeoff members said warrants further analysis before the fall.
