BOXBOROUGH — The Boxborough Sustainability Committee voted 4-0 to apply for a 2027 state-funded fellow to continue work on the town's specialized stretch energy code. Chair Kate Davies said the fellow, placed through a state program, works 20 hours a week at no cost to the town and must focus on energy transition work; member Suresh Jasrasaria was off the call for the roll call vote. The panel also learned the town submitted a $240,000 Green Communities grant application covering heat pump and weatherization projects at Town Hall, Blanchard Memorial School and the police station, with a guaranteed $40,000 utility incentive already secured for the Town Hall heat pump.
Finance Committee representative John Grevin said the transfer station takes in roughly $50,000 a year against about $100,000 in operating costs, fueling discussion of a pay-as-you-throw system; one member called the current structure "foolishness" to maintain unchanged. The committee postponed deciding any fee structure, deadlines or September minutes to November.
