Sustainability Committee · Meeting of May 13, 2026
Boxborough's Sustainability Committee reviewed a specialized stretch energy code and lost quorum before voting on minutes. CELT Fellow Becky Caruso presented state data showing the optional code, which would apply only to new construction, could cut emissions and save homeowners money, citing a $21 billion statewide life-cycle savings estimate and a 500,000-ton annual greenhouse gas reduction. Member Suresh Jasrasaria said the committee needs to "convince the audience that they should vote for this because it does not hurt them." Member Johanna Choo cited a $15,000 local heat pump installation quote with only a $1,200 rebate.
Staff member Ian Gilson said a pay-as-you-throw transfer station model is due by June, with board outreach starting in September. The committee could not approve three months of minutes after only three members remained for the vote.
