Joint TriBoard Meeting · Meeting of October 13, 2026
BOXBOROUGH — Acton and Boxborough officials disclosed that a high school roof repair estimate nearly doubled to $8 million. At a joint TriBoard meeting October 13, school finance presenter Peter said an engineering firm raised the rooftop HVAC replacement estimate from $4.3 million to roughly $8 million, forcing talk of a debt exclusion or phasing the work. Boxborough Finance Committee member John Connor presented a model showing an 8.9 percent projected tax levy increase for fiscal 2028, calling it "a huge number" and saying "I hope it's wrong, quite frankly." Acton's model showed a roughly $3 million shortfall for the same year.
The Regional School Committee also disclosed a resolution opposing state ballot Question 5, warning it could limit future Chapter 70 school aid, of which the district currently receives about $18 million annually.
