Fire station site vote set for March as committee addresses costs

Fire Station Building Committee · Meeting of February 12, 2026

BOXBOROUGH — Fire Station Building Committee advances plans for March vote on new fire station. Chair Mary Brolin noted that the committee is preparing for a Special Town Meeting vote on March 9 to authorize purchasing 984 Mass Avenue for a new fire station with a $32 million conceptual cost estimate. The committee voted unanimously to approve prior meeting minutes and $6,851.41 in vendor invoices.

The committee discussed value engineering approaches to reduce costs, noting that removing approximately $2.4 million in potential cost-reduction items could make the facility unresponsive to Fire Department operational needs. If the 984 Mass Avenue vote fails, 72 Stow Road is the committee's next considered site.
