BOXBOROUGH — Fire Station Building Committee confirmed property purchase and advanced design plans. The town completed its acquisition of 984 Massachusetts Avenue and reviewed updated designs for the new 20,941-square-foot facility. Context architects updated site plans to maintain existing tree coverage and prevent sight lines to neighboring properties.
The Committee reached consensus on a flat apparatus bay roof. Thornton Tomasetti sustainability consultants presented options for material recycling, solar-ready parking canopies, and energy-efficient envelope design. Committee members answered resident questions about firefighter staffing, sleeping accommodations, training facilities, and operational space requirements.
A public design update meeting is planned for September 30 at 7 p.m.
