Fire Station Committee Eliminates Third Site, Narrows Focus to Two
Fire Station Building Committee · Meeting of January 5, 2026
BOXBOROUGH — Fire Station Building Committee eliminates high-cost site option ahead of March vote. Chair Mary Brolin's committee voted unanimously to remove 1300 Massachusetts Avenue from consideration as the location for a new $30 million fire station, narrowing options to 984 Massachusetts Avenue and 72 Stow Road. Committee member Alan Ford cited the significant cost differential and noted that either remaining site could meet visibility needs at lower cost; Finance Committee representative Maria Neyland agreed, pointing to town direction that cost is a major factor.
The committee is preparing warrant articles for the March 2026 Special Town Meeting, where voters will decide on land purchase and design fees with a two-thirds majority and a debt exclusion vote.
