Boxborough Select Board Approves Liquor License for New Bakery Coffee Shop

BOXBOROUGH — October 27, 2025 — Boxborough Select Board unanimously approves liquor license for new bakery, hears rising transfer station deficit. The board voted 3-0 Monday to grant an on-premises all-alcoholic beverages license to Thinking Flower Coffee Shop, Inc., located at 629 Massachusetts Avenue, Suite C — the first bakery in Boxborough and the town's third alcohol-serving establishment. Owner and pastry chef Divya, represented by attorney Stefano Caprera, said alcohol service — primarily wine, beer, and occasional cocktails — would begin no earlier than 11 a.m. and remain confined to the interior and a designated front patio. Police Chief John said his department would work with the ABCC as it does with the town's two existing restaurants. The board also received a Phase 1 Comprehensive Water Resources Report from Weston and Sampson, finding that groundwater recharge rates of 6,320 to nearly 16,000 million gallons per year appear to comfortably exceed current annual demand of roughly 190 million gallons, though the study addresses quantity only and not water quality. Transfer station director Ed reported a fiscal year 2025 deficit of nearly $49,000, with disposal costs running $107 per ton for trash, $118 per ton for recycling, and $170 per ton for food waste, prompting board discussion of a sticker fee increase.
